How STB Remit works

Sending money home with STB Remit is simple and secure. Create your account once, then send in a few minutes from our website or app.

1

Create your account and verify your ID

Sign up online or in the STB Remit app. The law requires us to check the identity of everyone who sends money with us, so we’ll ask for a photo ID (your passport, driving licence or national photo identity card) and a quick selfie to confirm it’s really you. You only need to do this once, although we may occasionally ask you to update your details.

2

Choose where and how to send

Tell us the country you’re sending to, how much you want to send and how your recipient will receive the money: bank deposit, mobile wallet or cash pickup. Before you go any further, we show you our fee, the exchange rate, the exact amount your recipient will get and how long it will take.

3

Add your recipient

Choose someone you’ve sent to before, or add a new recipient with their full name, phone number and either their bank account or mobile wallet details. For cash pickup, your recipient may need to show ID or answer a test question you set. Please check the details carefully — if they’re wrong, the money could be paid to the wrong person.

3

Pay and confirm

Pay by debit card, bank transfer or in-app open banking payment, then confirm your transfer. We start processing once we’ve received your payment and completed our checks. Your wallet is used only to make transfers — it doesn’t hold a balance.

3

Track it to delivery

You’ll get a receipt by email or in the app with your transfer reference, the amount sent, the fee, the exchange rate and the amount your recipient will receive. Follow your transfer in the app until it’s paid out. We can also let your recipient know by SMS when the money is ready, where this is available.

Good to know

How long does it take?

Most mobile wallet transfers to The Gambia arrive within 10 minutes once your payment has cleared. Sometimes transfers take longer — for example, when we must carry out checks required by law, for larger amounts, or because of a payout location’s opening hours or local banking arrangements.

Changed your mind?

You can ask us to cancel a transfer any time before it has been paid out, in the app or by contacting us. See our Terms and Conditions, clause 9.

Keep yourself safe

Only send money to people you know and trust. If someone has contacted you unexpectedly asking for money or told you what to say to us about your transfer, stop — it may be a scam. Read our fraud advice.
